Why the Golf Coast? It doesn’t make any kind of sense to create a man-sized web portal for a small-sized town. But North Berwick is not an island – we are the hub of a vibrant hinterland of similar interests and inter-twined links. A Brand Name So – create an easily identifiable area with a lot of mutuality of interest, bring it all together under one umbrella, and we have two solutions for the price of one: a local market for the Portal big enough to achieve economies of scale, and a wonderful opportunity to brand our entire area under a suitably descriptive and easily recognisable brand name – the Golf Coast! 	About Us As the Internet and its user-face the World Wide Web become an increasingly important part of our daily lives, it is inevitable that our on-line interests are focused away from North Berwick. Taken to its logical conclusion, our sense of local community is in danger of being diminished and possibly extinguished as we become citizens of a virtual world. Just ask the kids!! The Portal is a Web Gateway The Portal is our answer to creating a local Web presence that will strengthen our sense of being in a very special place, whilst at the same time giving us the satisfaction of having all the advantages of being a part of the ubiquitous international community. An Investment by and for the Local Community The Portal is a venture by the North Berwick and District Business Association whose far-sighted vision and commitment belie its small-town history. The Portal's facilities and services are aimed at our local community, whilst its visibility is also intended to attract the interest of people and businesses in UK and around the world. An Independent, Autonomous Not-for-Profit Organisation The Portal is managed by a team of volunteer professionals who are committed to making this a high-ranking, useful and must-have facility. We are independent, with no reliance on the public purse, and with a self-sustaining income stream from online commercial services. (To the potential great advantage of local businesses!)
