Peter J Atkins, Chair

Peter chairs the committee, having been President and Secretary of the North Berwick Horticultural Societ for eight years. He was invited to join NBIB after winning the Medium-sized Garden Competition, two years in succession. He has designed and created several of the flower beds in the town, including the new corner at the east end of the High Street. Peter is also a member of Probus.

Dave Kerr, Committee Member.

Originally from Fife, Dave settled in North Berwick in 1997. His 37 year career in horticulture began in a commercial nursery as an apprentice gardener. He worked for four Scottish Councils before moving to East Lothian Council. Dave is Senior Amenity Officer within the Amenity Services Management Team who are responsible for parks, open spaces, cemeteries and street sweeping. He has been a volunteer on several North Berwick in Bloom projects, including Lodge Gardens Restoration.

Rosemary Oberlander, Vice Chair

Rosemary was born in the Netherlands and grew up in Aberdeen, where she studied architecture. After a spell in Edinburgh she moved to North Berwick in 1994 to bring up her family. She became involved with North Berwick in Bloom as a volunteer engaged in the maintenance of flower and shrub beds and joined the Committee in 2005.

Dr Stan da Prato, Committee Member

Stan grew up in North Berwick and still lives in East Lothian. He learned his practical horticulture from his father, before taking up a career in education. Stan is involved in a number of conservation and ornithological organisations; is Chairman of the Advisory Group for Aberlady Bay Nature Reserve and is currently involved in a number of biodiversity projects in the town. In addition to being a Council Member for the National Trust for Scotland, he is also Vice President of the Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society and edits its journal, the Caledonian Gardener

Mrs Elma Danks, MBE, JP, Treasurer

Elma Danks has lived and worked in North Berwick since 1962. She was elected to the Community Council in 1987; served as Chairperson and is currently Treasurer. She was a founding member of the Floral Art Club. In 1993 she became a founding member of North Berwick in Bloom, and since then has served either as Chairperson or as a committee member. Elma serves on numerous Committees in the area and is a church elder.

Jean Anderson, Committee Member

Jean came to live in North Berwick in 1970, having been born in Gateshead. She lived in South Africa for a time before returning to UK. Jean helps at the Heart and Stroke Club. She has been a member of the North Berwick Environment Trust for many years, joining North Berwick in Bloom Committee in a liaison function, in 2002.

Sheila Sinclair, Secretary

 

Born in Edinburgh, Sheila spent many years working in London before settling in North Berwick in 1990. Sheila is a past chairman of East Lothian Business Association. Over the past four years she has compiled our “blooming” quiz and joined the Committee in 2006. Sheila is our fundraiser and, as a keen miniaturist, was responsible for furnishing the model lighthouse at the east end of the High Street.
